Since elementary school, football has been a part of Ryan Abrams’ life.
“I’ve been playing football since I was in third grade. I started with flag football and then moved to tackle football in middle school,” said Abrams. “And then when I got to high school, I met all my teammates and friends I have now.”
For every player, there’s that one coach who leaves a lasting impact. For Ryan, there were two: Coach Griff, his linebacker coach, and Coach Conley, his defensive coordinator.
Ryan described them as “ huge influences on my football career and life. Just being mentors and coaches made me a better football player and person and pushed me to be the best that I can be.”
Ryan first connected with St. Norbert’s College on an unofficial visit. Seeing the team play inspired Ryan to come back for an official college visit with a campus tour.
“I saw the campus, and all the people were really nice. The programs were nice, and it just felt like the right decision,” Abrams remarked.
While it all worked out in the end, the recruitment process was no easy process to endure for Abrams.
“The recruitment process was definitely stressful. You’ve got a lot of coaches not replying and not reaching out to you, so it can be frustrating,” stated Ryan.
Ryan is going to miss his teammates from high school, but is ready to move on to the next chapter of his life and play his favorite sport at the collegiate level.
