Coco Herro finished this wrestling season with a bang, and she is ready to continue her excellence at Aurora University, where she will major in special education.
As Herro looks back on her athletic career at ETHS, she recognizes all the teachings that she has learned and grown from.
“We had a lot of different coaches coaching us, so we had many different teachings,” she says. “I grew more and more in wrestling.”
For Herro, wrestling began with family inspiration. What brought her into wrestling was her cousin.
“He wrestled when he was in high school and there were no girls. I thought it would be so cool when I was older to be in a women’s wrestling club or team,” Herro explains.
That dream became reality during her freshman year, when she made history as part of the school’s first all-girls wrestling team.
Now, as Herro continues her athletic journey, her goals are only growing. One of the main reasons she wants to continue in college is so that she can be good enough to get on the national team of Guatemala for freestyle wrestling.
With big ambitions and a solid foundation, she’s confident her mental strength will carry her forward. “I had a strong mindset and mentality during my high school years at ETHS,” she says. “I’m hoping that will come with me in college.”
