ETHS Cornerback and wide receiver Dallas Amos has decided to pursue the sport at the division one level, choosing to attend Illinois State University. While Amos grew up playing football as his stepdad played semi-professionally, he initially chose to join the soccer team upon his arrival at ETHS.
“I considered myself more of a soccer player freshman year. When I made the switch, I broke out very quickly and soon realized I had to take action if I wanted to get recruited,” commented Amos.
Amos began to reach out to every coach that he could find contact information for and attend a ton of camps. It was at one of these camps that he caught the eye of the Redbirds’ defensive back coach Trevin Madison, who gave Amos a walk-on offer on the spot.
“There was no way I was going to refuse the offer because [Illinois State] has such a great environment on game days, and the campus is a nice place to relax during school time,” stated Amos, who plans to major in finance.
As he is currently a walk-on, Amos knows that he needs to work very hard to get a full-ride scholarship.
“I am currently undersized, so I need to prioritize the weight room in the coming months,” said Amos. “If I do that, then hopefully I will be able to focus on football and school instead of how it is being paid for.”
