The outgoing Evanstonian Executive Editors are proud to announce the 108th Editorial Board: Ethan Ravi, Ryan Wambo, Sam Froum, Izzy Paracuelles and Naomi Alemayehu. United in their love for journalism, these five editors have used their time at The Evanstonian to grow as writers, leaders and people.
“Next year presents a unique opportunity for growth, with the expansion of our digital arm, the restructuring of the editorial board and the reorganization of sections,” said Ravi, who will serve as Editor-in-Chief next year. “This is a special group of people, and I really look forward to seeing all that we accomplish.”
With the expansion and reorganization of the paper, next year’s editorial board hopes to broaden the scope of the Evanstonian’s coverage.
“I’m excited to cover a wider range of stories that appeal to a greater portion of the student body while learning more about ETHS and the Evanston community,” said Froum, Print Executive Editor overseeing the Arts & Entertainment, Sports, Art and Feature sections.
Overseeing the Photo, News and Opinion sections, Print Executive Editor Paracuelles is equally as eager to bring new people into the fold, and continue enriching the staff of the newspaper as well.
“The people involved are what make The Evanstonian what it is,” she said. “I can’t wait to be working with such talented, dedicated and wonderful staff, and hopefully introduce many more students to the space we offer.”
Expanding requires communication and outreach, which will be the focus for Wambo, filling the newly created position of Managing Editor.
“I’m glad this spot is available, I think I’m the right fit for it. It’s going to be awesome getting to know the other sections on a deeper level and trying to expand the club with our plans for outreach,” he said. “I know this group is going to deliver some amazing pieces for the 2024-25 school year, all we need to do is trust the process and be patient with ourselves.”
That belief is carried by all the editors, as the publication aims to progress into a new era. Significant changes occurred in the digital section this year, with the creation of many new positions, all with the goal of diversifying The Evanstonian’s media offerings.
“There are so many new ideas put on the table for next year which is super exciting,” said Alemayehu, next year’s Digital Executive Editor. “Digital for next year has a lot of potential.”
All in all, the 2024-2025 school year presents an opportunity for incredible journalism, and the incoming editorial board is ready to step up to their roles.
“It’s going to be a great year,” said Ravi.
