The energy was electric inside Beardsley Gym on Friday night as the Evanston Wildkits (7-6) took on the New Trier Trevains (7-12). Fresh off a loss to Maine South on Tuesday, the Wildkits looked to get back in the win column. They succeeded, beating the Trevains 62-41.
For Evanston, Sophomore Guard Charity Bryant and Senior Guard Havana Van Wyk lead the team in points, with Bryant having a total of 16 points and Van Wyk with 11 points. Right from the start, Evanston was in the right mindset as they ended the first half with a score of 38-22.
“I think of it as any other game, that’s what helps me keep down the nerves before a big game like this,” stated Bryant.
It wasn’t any other game for Bryant, as she made a few big points late in the game, proving Evanston’s dominance.
In the second half, the Wildkits kept the energy going by scoring a total of 37 points. New Trier kept fighting back after getting a slow start, scoring 21 points in the second half and taking more aggressive shots.
The team’s energy didn’t only stay on the court. It showed through the Kit Pit, ETHS’ student section. The Kit Pit was loud every time the Trevians tried to score.
The energy lasted all the way to the final buzzer. Even with the win well in hand, the rivalry heated up, with Evanston still pushing.
Evanston will try to bring the momentum to their next game, which is on Monday, January 13, against Lane Tech at 6:30 pm.
