About Me:
My name is Olin Wilson-Thomas, and I am a junior who was recently elected by you, the students of ETHS, to be your next Representative to the ETHS School Board. Before I ran to be your Student Rep, I was fighting for important issues all around the city. As a member of both the Evanston Environment Board and the Bike Plan Update Committee, I’ve pushed for better climate and transportation policies to make our environment cleaner and our city easier to get around. I’m also involved with many nonprofits around town, and I attend City Council meetings in my free time. (True fact!) I also enjoy going on runs, taking bike rides and listening to music.
My Goal:
My main goal for next year is to make real change happen fast. I’m already hard at work establishing detailed policy proposals, and I’ve recruited a top notch team to help me serve you.
My Platform:
1) Better Bathrooms–The school bathrooms have been neglected for years. In fact, many of the stalls and sinks that we use today were installed when our parents attended ETHS! When I’m on the school board, I’ll fight to update every bathroom in the school because all students deserve to use clean and functional bathrooms.
2) Students Vote on the Friday Song–Each year, the school administration selects a song to play over the loudspeakers every Friday. And each year, the Friday song is almost universally disliked by students. Next year, I’ll allow students to submit songs and vote on the Friday song each month.
3) No P.E. for Athletes–Our student athletes proudly represent our school, but hours of sports everyday often leave them with little time for studying. Meanwhile, they’re forced to participate in a P.E. program that either tires them out before a game or provides them with little physical benefit. When I’m your Student Rep next year, I’ll fight for all student athletes to receive an optional P.E. exemption for an additional study hall.
How I’ll Represent You:
My job as Student Rep is to take action on the issues that are important to you while also communicating everything I’m doing to represent your interests. Starting next year, I’ll be holding weekly office hours to hear your concerns. I’ll also be posting one video per week going over everything I’m doing to represent your interests. Additionally, I’ll be publishing a monthly column in The Evanstonian to update you on everything that my team and I are doing for you.
Thank you for trusting me to be your next student rep. I look forward to working with you to make ETHS a better place.
