For four-year varsity athlete Vivie Aceves, Lacrosse has always been a part of her life.
“In kindergarten, my friends and I were debating between trying soccer or lacrosse. We ended up trying lacrosse, and after one day of camp, I was like ‘Oh my gosh, I love this’ and ever since
then I’ve stuck to it,” explained Aceves.
“I was unsure if I wanted to play at the next level, but I couldn’t imagine not playing this sport after high school.”
Committing her junior year to Denison University, it was a huge relief to be done with the recruiting process. “The recruitment process really started the summer before my junior year with a bunch of recruitment camps. I spent a lot of time on the East Coast at camps and was sending out a lot of emails to coaches. There were also showcases, which were super stressful and really meant I needed to play well,” Aceves remarked.
Vivie was contemplating between shooting for D1 schools or D3 schools, but after consideration, she remembered she wanted more from her college experience besides lacrosse, which is hard to achieve when playing Division 1.
“Denison was always on my list, but when I started asking myself what I want out of a school besides the lacrosse program, Denison stood out with its quality sports psychology and athletic training programs, and being close to home so my family can come and watch was what really gave me the push,” said Aceves.
Playing at the collegiate level not only means you will be facing better competition, but that you will be surrounded by other athletes with the same goal and mindset as you.
“I’m most looking forward to being in a culture where everyone really has the same passion as I do for this sport,” finalized Aceves.
