Boys Tennis season is starting in the spring, and the team is expecting some players to go far this year. With only 7 returning players, they have to step up with their new senior captains, Will Klearman and Jesse Dush-Hart leading them. They will look to continue to build the program in Head Coach Leanne Baker’s second season.
“Well, I think one of the goals will be to try and get a player or a team to state. That’s going to be one of our major goals. And then after that, it’s just working on team unity and having everybody work hard for each other,”, said Baker.
The road to state for tennis is a tricky one, given that the CSL conference consists of so many powerhouse schools. Sophomore Owen Keyser and junior Noah Polanski are the two big contenders for state this year.
As for the new members, “The team will have a lot of freshmen and people who were on JV last year moving up, so it’ll be cool to see what they can do for our team,” commented Keyser.
This new range of people could be beneficial to the team and their goals of advancing further this year.
, “I’d say overall, we lost about half our team. They graduated. They were all like core members, but there’s one freshman who’s made it already on varsity, so we’re excited about what he can bring,” remarked junior Guthrie Oklo
One of the large aspirations for this season is also overall team improvement, not just personal. The whole team needs to be working together collectively with a positive and strong attitude in practice to be able to do well in matches.
“Well, I think if we go in with the mindset that, especially like in practice, if we all work hard for each other, then they’re gonna make each other better,” noted head coach Baker.
The season opens up on March 21, 2026, with an away match against Oak Park River Forest.
