Kit Pit was recently voted the number one student section in Illinois and the third best student section in the nation, according to The Student Section Report. This popular student-run club at ETHS now in its fifth year, organizes special traditions and plays a major role in the student section at sports games. Following a very successful year for Kit Pit, the new leaders of the club aim to have an exciting future of events.
Amaru Greene is a senior at ETHS and has earned a leadership role in the Kit Pit club this 2025-2026 season.
“I’ve always been fascinated by the indescribable feeling of being in a crowd of people cheering for a game,” commented Greene.
For Greene, this excitement isn’t limited to pro level arenas; it also comes from watching his friends at high school games. After seeing so many students come out to support their friends, he knew he wanted to be part of it. He can now create that feeling for others and lead the community in cheering on students and experiencing the game at a new level.
“Our mission at Kit Pit is to enhance the experience of big games through an inclusive dynamic, a welcoming community, and a student section that brings out the dog in every person—so that their passion for our school sports grows and grows into a passion that can only truly be found in that student section,” explained Greene.
Joining Greene this year is junior Posey Ross, who sees the new season as an opportunity to build on last year’s achievements.
“Last year was probably the most successful year of Kit Pit, so we are continuing with a lot of similar things from last year, like having Kit Pit games of the week. We love this idea because each sport gets seen and can have an audience, instead of just the few popular ones,” reflected Ross.
Junior Gable Holstine, also a first-year leader, has long been a passionate fan at ETHS games and knows firsthand how much the crowd matters as a soccer and lacrosse player.
“I love when fans come to my games, so I just wanted that experience for everybody,” remarked Holstine.
Holstine aims to bring more excitement and pride to the school’s sports events by improving the student section’s involvement.
Junior Sofia Jenio is another new leader of Kit Pit leader and hopes to bring the same energy that the club brought last year.
“This year we’re not changing a lot, but we have special plans for cheers at football and basketball games,” Jenio explained. “We also have some special plans for more videos and trying to include other sports, and not only focusing on basketball and football.”
With new leaders, Kit Pit is ready to make this year louder, prouder, and more unforgettable than ever.
