On Feb. 16, Evanston Dog Beach season passes became available to the public. Located on 1811 Sheridan Rd., the beach is open from 6 a.m.-11 p.m. seven days a week. The beach provides a space for dogs to swim, run and play with other dogs.
Dog beach passes are free for Evanston residents in zip codes 60201 and 60202 and can be purchased by non-residents. They are eligible through Mar. 1 of next year. In order to obtain a dog beach pass, dog owners must provide proof of up-to-date dog vaccinations, a 2026 pet license and a veterinarian-completed vaccination verification form at one of the eligible community centers.
The dog beach reopened in 2023 after a five-year closure due to rising lakewater levels. Many Evanston residents value the beach and regularly take their dogs. Junior Norah Myszkowski has been bringing her dog there for three years.
“There is a strong sense of community among people who use the dog beach,” said Myszkowski.
Although the dog beach offers freedom and exercise to some pets, the beach is not for every dog. Myszkowski only takes one of her dogs to the dog beach.
“One of my dogs plays too rough for me to feel comfortable taking him to the dog beach,” said Myszkowski.
In order to protect everybody’s safety, it is critical that dog owners consider their dog’s personality before purchasing a dog beach pass.
As the 2026 season begins, the Evanston Dog Beach remains a place where pet owners can bring their dogs year-round.
