The current editorial board is thrilled to introduce the incoming 109th executive board members: Will Klearman, Hannah Cervantes, Amen Fisseha, Emma Thomas, and Menna El Gamal. Through their years of working together, these editors have expressed not just a passion for journalism, but also strong leadership and community-building skills.
“I entered ETHS as a quiet, uncertain freshman, but The Evanstonian quickly became the place where I found my confidence, my voice and a true sense of community,” said Will Klearman. “Through it, I realized the real power of student journalism to spark conversation and drive change. Next year, I want to help build a space where our team feels supported and unafraid to tell meaningful stories. I also hope to be a mentor and friend to younger staff—because the encouragement I once received had a profound impact on me.”
The other Print Executive Editor is Hannah Cervantes, who is set to oversee the Arts & Entertainment and News sections. She shares Klearman’s excitement for next year, especially when it comes to building the Evanstonians’ welcoming environment.
“Journalism hasn’t always been the most inclusive field, and I hope to help change that by turning the Evanstonian into not just a stronger publication, but a true community—one where people with shared interests can learn, grow, and support one another,” Cervantes stated.
With the digital section in a constant state of change, Amen Fisseha is ready to take on the role of Digital Executive Editor.
“My goal for next year is to expand the different forms of media the Evanstonian puts out,” Fisseha said. She hopes to focus on highlighting the paper issue by managing both social media and the website.
Filling the role of Managing Editor is Menna El Gamal. She is focused on communication and outreach for the paper, sharing her fellow board member’s beliefs in the importance of building a shared identity.
“The Evanstonian is an amazing place for students to come together and create,” she stated. “I want to make sure we continue to invite people into our community.”
The new role of Design Executive Editor is being added to next year’s board and will be filled by Emma Thomas. She will oversee the overall design quality of the publication, including the Photo and Art sections.
“I want to continue to strengthen the ability of our paper to captivate readers through each issue’s design,” Thomas said. “I’m excited to work with a group of people that is so full of joy and passion.”
The ‘25-’26 school year will be one filled with growth for The Evanstonian, with the incoming board ready to step up into their new leadership positions. In their sections, they have grown as writers, editors, and members of the Evanstonian community.
“I’m excited to see what next year has in store, and I’m proud to experience it alongside such an incredible group of people,” said Cervantes.
