Brief | Annual Teacher Excellence Awards celebrate impactful educators

On Monday, April 29, the annual Teacher Excellence Awards were given out. The award, which is designed to “recognize exceptional educators for their outstanding work, impact on students and invaluable contributions to our school community,” is given to four teachers who are nominated by their fellow staff members.

The award ceremony took place in the Main Lobby, where family members, administrators, teachers and some students gathered to celebrate the achievements of the awardees. The winners this year were Erika Seaver (World Languages), Claire Getzoff (Special Education), Angela Sangha-Gadsen (English) and Toly Walker (English and Reading).

Recipients gave acceptance speeches, talking about colleagues, family and work. Many speeches centered around the importance of teaching, and the life changing effects it can have.

“You never know what will make an impact,” said Toly Walker.

Your donation will support the student journalists of the Evanstonian. We are planning a big trip to the Journalism Educators Association conference in Philadelphia in November 2023, and any support will go towards making that trip a reality. Contributions will appear as a charge from SNOSite. Donations are NOT tax-deductible.

Ethan Ravi, News Editor
Hi! My name is Ethan Ravi (he/him). I’m a junior, and this year I’m the News Editor, as well as the Resident Food Critic. This is my third year on staff, previously I was the Assistant News Editor (sophomore year), and a staff writer (freshman year). I love writing for the Evanstonian because I get to work with our wonderful staff to tell important Evanston stories. Outside of the paper, I play tennis for the ETHS team, work at a local tennis shop, compete on the Math Team and participate in peer tutoring. In my free time, I enjoy reading, seeing friends and family, playing the piano and drinking coffee.
