Echo Thomason, a senior artist, first recalls making art as a child, using it as an outlet for their creativity. Before finding an interest in sketching, they worked on short stories and created films with their family, finding new ways to channel their passion for art into intricate skills. These experiences as a child truly shaped Thomason into who they are as an artist, setting up the path for their detailed work.
“I actually love drawing, I love art. Since I was younger, my siblings and I used to make comic books and drawings, and I used to make stories,” Thomason said.
For Thomason, both the presence of women and deep connection towards music throughout their life has been a large source of influence for their sketches. Thomason, who listens to mostly female artists, uses singers like Doja Cat and Tanerelle to shape the tone and envisioning of their art.
Becoming more developed in their artistry, Thomason now primarily creates sketches, specializing in sketching different forms of goddesses and enjoys capturing concepts like divine femininity in their work.
“I just want to capture the essence of feminine energy, to really show the beauty of women. I’m trying to expand on that, trying to draw different body types, different hairstyles and different facial features,” explains Thomason.
Echo is currently focused on refining their artistic skills and continuing to grow as an artist, all while balancing creativity at home with the demands of school. Juggling a full student life while pursuing artistic growth isn’t easy, and for Echo, that challenge often fills their days.
“It’s not an easy task to do, especially when it comes to evolving your skills and drawing. You really do have to work, find balance and be very disciplined, basically setting time alone to just draw, read or do work…I like to see how evolved I can become when it comes to drawing. It’s a skill that needs to be worked on, so the more I put in, the more I become a master at it,” said Thomason.
Nonetheless, schoolwork or not, Thomason continues to strive for greatness beyond their creativity. Through their sketches, they capture intricate details that not only picture the embodiment of women, but the dedication and passion of their work.
As Thomason continues to grow, they consistently showcase their art through promising visions, highlighting their strong self-expression and skills. It’s clear that Echo has a favorable future ahead of them, an inspiring drive that is sure to influence those around them to as well look at the world through their own artistic lens.
