The ETHS Girls Gymnastics team had a successful 2024-25 season, as a team reaching sectionals for the first time since 1991 and setting new records at ETHS since 2001. Even with graduating quite a few senior stars, including Ella Eovaldi, the Kits expect new leaders to step up for the team. Eovaldi achieved notable state qualifications and set seven ETHS records during her time at ETHS.
“Last season was very fun, we made it to sectionals as a team, which hadn’t happened in a long time. I’m excited for this season to come and see how our team can grow together,” said sophomore Julia Darer.
Head Coach Michael Spevack expresses that consistency is the primary goal, emphasizing the importance of performing well in every competition. She also highlights creating an environment that allows the girls to perform at their best consistently is crucial for the team’s success.
“The expectation is just to perform as best as we feasibly can. We have to see who’s going to step up with the massive losses that we had last season,” expressed Spevack “But that gives room for other girls to step up and see what they can do.”
Despite losing many key seniors, the team aims to perform as well as possible, with hopes that new leaders like Julia Darer and Maddie Brandt will step up. In this upcoming season, the team is led by captains Maddie Brandt, Rory McKee, and Simone Llanes.
“Maddie Brandt, along with the other seniors, Simone and Rory, have done a good job of being leaders and the captains of our team,” expresses junior Gemma Pollard.
Preseason has just begun with open gyms planned, and the focus is on finding consistency to mitigate the impact of the senior losses.
