The ETHS Golf Team had just won the CSL South division title, and as expected, many emotions were taking place: joy, excitement, and jubilation, just to name a few. However, another emotion occurred. Love.
Kieran Low was experiencing the powerful emotion of love: love for his teammates, his school, and his coach.
“I think their drive and commitment to practicing and getting better has really helped influence everyone else on that team, because now there’s a group of kids that want to go out and practice every day, year-round,” said Low, reflecting on his teammates’ preparation and dedication.
“We practice and play together in the summers, and I look up to them. I admire their work ethic and their commitment, and I see them put in work, and I just think to myself that I gotta do what they do, if not more,” Low stated.
Obviously, the team bonding has helped the group focus on a few common goals after the heartbreaking playoff loss at State last year.
The goals: Get to State, and win.
So far, the team has stayed on track and hopes to capture that elusive state title this year.
All signs point to Evanston maintaining this type of triumph over time, and in the process, the young guns could lead the team to more division and state titles. Lester Low and Henry Way, both Sophomores, each scored 4-under par at the CSL Sectional matches and seem to be able to carry the load for the next couple of years.
The golf team’s success has not gone unnoticed. Plenty of young and up-and-coming freshmen have noticed the impressive surge. And while this might sound controversial, social media has played a large role in captivating the underclassmen.
“On Instagram, everyone’s posting about us, Kit Pit, Barstool. So a lot of people see how we perform. So I would assume that it definitely affects the number of kids trying out,” said Low.
And even if ETHS doesn’t get the result that they are hoping for on Friday, they at least know just how much of an impact they made on school athletes. That, in any case, seems like a pretty impressive accomplishment that they should be proud of.
