After a great season last year, the boys’ Cross Country team is looking to carry that momentum into this fall. The 2024 squad was very senior-heavy, led by star runner Sam Froum. Now, with all that veteran leadership gone, the team looks to captains Lucas Linder and Andrew Rich to lead the way.

“The seniors last year were super helpful and great role models for the younger guys on the team. It’s going to be tough following that,” said Senior Lucas Linder.

Evanston is known for being scrappy and showing grit in distance running. The Kits might not have the best runners in the state, but their work ethic separates them.

“This summer was great for us. We are running six days a week at 7:30 in the morning, and we are seeing great results. Lots of guys are excited to be here and want to run every day, which is amazing to see,” stated Linder.

“Lots of seniors left from last season, so the team is a little inexperienced in high school running, but we have lots of great runners coming back this year. We also have a ton of great freshmen joining this year, and two of them even went to nationals for track in their eighth-grade seasons, so we are super excited to see the turnout this year,” said Linder.

Even with a younger roster, the team’s goal is still to go to state and compete. 

“It may be a little tougher this year compared to others but I still believe in the talent of our guys, and I think we can get the job done, Besides going downstate, the goal for the team is just for everyone to have their best season possible and to keep progressing for upcoming seasons,” said senior Andrew Rich.
