Girls wrestling pins down a Senior Night win

Facing off against Riverside-Brookfield at home on Friday night, the girls wrestling team secured a 30-12 win over the Bulldogs following seven hard-fought matches.

After making its debut last season with a team of 11, girls wrestling has seen a surge in new members this year, and now boasts a roster of 18.

Those girls dominated the mats on Friday. Led by co-captains senior Ariana Flores and junior Priscilla Hartwell, the Kits racked up two pins right out of the gate, followed by three more later in the night that propelled E-Town to victory.

To celebrate senior night, the team’s six seniors—Flores, Nemi Cooper, Ashland Henson, Nadia Himrod, Edlin Liang and Elizabeth Paderes-Tores—were escorted to the mat by their families and congratulated by ETHS Athletic Director Chris Livatino and Assistant Athletic Director Mike Burzawa.

The seniors and the rest of the team hope to finish the season off strong with upcoming contests at Oak Park-River Forest on Saturday, Jan. 28 and at Batavia on Wednesday, Feb. 1. After that, it’s on to the first round of IHSA Sectionals on Feb. 10, which will be hosted at Evanston.
