Girls golf’s up and down season comes to end

After a rough patch in the middle of their season, girls golf bounced back and was able to end their season on a positive note with a fourth place finish in the CSL.

The Kits ended their season with a win over Hersey on route to their fourth-place finish and sent seniors Echo Allen and Katie Gemmell as well as freshman Amelie Koecher to sectionals.

“This was probably our best overall season,” senior captain Drew Patterson said. “The team performed very well compared to other years.”

Junior Mia Housworth attributes much of the team’s success to the bonds that they formed this year.

“Our team does a really great job supporting each other,”  Houseworth explained. “When something goes wrong and you’re not feeling confident, the whole team makes you feel better and picks you up.”

Patterson, a four-year member of the team, thinks that her experiences on the team and with the sport have helped prepare her for life after high school.

“Golf teaches you a lot about social skills and etiquette so I definitely learned that,” Patterson said. “I learned how to practice and kind of coach myself during the season.”

Houseworth thinks that with help from Koecher and the rest of  this year’s underclassmen, the team can build on their success from this year and soar to new heights,

“I’m hoping we can move into sectionals again,” Houseworth said.  “We had a strong group of sophomores and freshman this year who will be on varsity next year so hopefully they can contribute.”

The Kits’ plan on pushing themselves to a higher level when they return next fall.
