Tarpey chooses Miami of Ohio

After just one year as the Wildkits’ signal caller, Ben Tarpey will be a preferred walk-on for the Miami of Ohio Redhawks.

Tarpey’s performance during his senior year sparkled as he broke the ETHS single season passing yards record totaling 2,027 yards, eclipsing the previous record of 1,982 yards set by Marcus White in 1994. Miami of Ohio checked all of the boxes Tarpey wanted when searching for a college.

“It’s a really strong academic school, the football there is great, I mean it’s division I football, you get to go up against the best competition in the country,” Tarpey said.

My name is Chris Werner, and I am a senior at ETHS. I have written for The Evanstonian for three years and hold the position of Sports Editor this year. I also was a color commentator for the Evanston boys and girls basketball teams this past season. Apart from writing on The Evanstonian, I have created my own sports blog called Werner's Words. I plan to study journalism in college. I have also been a member of the ETHS golf team for four seasons.

My name is Jonah Charlton. I'm a senior and Executive Editor for The Evanstonian. I oversee the Arts & Entertainment, Sports and Photo and Art sections. Prior to this year, I was a photographer (2015-17), Photo and Art Editor (2017-2018), Layout Editor (2017-2018) and Staff Writer (2017-2018). As a writer and photographer, I've covered community events such as the fate of the Harley Clarke mansion to major school events such as the boys' basketball state semifinal game and the student led walkout against gun violence. Outside The Evanstonian, I play tennis, teach one through six year old children at Chiaravalle Montessori School and am on the Chicago International Student Film Council. While I am unsure of what my future holds, The Evanstonian has provided a space where my communication, problem-solving and critical thinking skills have flourished.
