The ETHS Thrift Shop will return to the Hub Oct. 27–31. The shop is set to offer many types of donated clothing, including anything from shirts to fancy dresses, as well as sweaters, pants and accessories.
This fall, the thrift shop will be open from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m.-4 p.m. on Friday. The shop is led and run by Community Service Coordinator Erin Claeys. Claeys encourages students to bring donations, if they are able, to the Community Service Office located in the Hub.
“We ask that students bring only items that are in good condition and suitable for high schoolers,” said Claeys. “ We are especially looking for masculine clothing that’s comfy.”
The thrift shop occurs once to twice every year, offering an opportunity for many, especially students, to become involved in community service. Students serve as the primary volunteers, both preparing the shop and managing it during their free time.
Every year, the shop typically raises around $300. Items are sold for one dollar or one Kitcoin each. This year, proceeds will go to the ETHS student emergency fund, which works to support students and families in need of financial assistance.
In addition to raising money for the fund, the shop gives students access to affordable clothing.
“People can shop and access clothing that they might not otherwise be able to afford,” said Claeys. “It’s a fun way to reduce, recycle and reuse instead of always buying something new.”
The shop’s return has generated enthusiasm among students, who see it as a fun and meaningful way to shop sustainably and contribute to the school community.
“I’m excited because my friend found some cool shoes here a couple of years ago,” said Kelly Toomey, a freshman. “I hope I can find some cool ones too.”
This fall, the ETHS Thrift Shop will provide students with opportunities to work together, engage with the community and participate in service.
