A step-by-step look at District 65’s superintendent search

When District 65’s superintendent, Dr. Devon Horton, resigned in 2023, responsibility fell to the Board of Education to address the unoccupied position. After a timely and eventful search for the ultimate candidate, the district is set to identify the permanent superintendent on March 18. This is what happened before the district made their final decision on an appointee.

The identity of the superintendent has now been determined among the Board of Education and is to be revealed to the public on March 18. The superintendent plays an integral role in the district’s leadership, tasked with uniting students, staff, parents, families and communities across all of its 16 schools. According to the Board, the Evanston community will have the chance to engage with and get to know the new superintendent before they take office.

Your donation will support the student journalists of the Evanstonian. We are planning a big trip to the Journalism Educators Association conference in Philadelphia in November 2023, and any support will go towards making that trip a reality. Contributions will appear as a charge from SNOSite. Donations are NOT tax-deductible.

Natalie Weinert, Staff Writer
Hi! My name is Natalie Weinert (she/her), and I am a staff writer for The Evanstonian. I am a freshman, so this is my first year being part of the paper. I am writing for The Evanstonian to improve how I collaborate with people in a team setting, to learn about useful skills and journalism in general, and to have fun with the new people I meet! I play volleyball at ETHS, and I might join other clubs or sports teams as the year goes on. In my free time, I enjoy being with family and friends, playing sports, traveling, reading, and watching TV.
