The 2023 Student Voice Forum (previously known as the Witherbell Forum), was held on Oct. 30. This event, created by current Superintendent Dr. Marcus Campbell eight years ago (when he was in the role of principal), aims to facilitate the contact between ETHS students and staff, with the goal of revising school policy to better fit the needs of the student body. This annual forum is organized by the Student Union, and held in the Hub.

At the forum, Campbell and Assistant Superintendent and Principal Dr. Taya Kinzie were present to hear student voices. They engaged in many conversations with those students, moving between different tables that were focused on different topics, such as lunch, PE and equity in extracurriculars. Students were able to walk around and sit at their desired table, to collaborate with others and engage in conversations surrounding their chosen issue.

Many students felt like the forum offered a good opportunity to share their thoughts and ideas with administrators.

“I like how the school listens to student feedback, instead of assuming or not taking time to consider what students have to say,” said Joan Camya, a senior.

Other students had similar views.

“The forum is engaging and I’m happy the school cares about my opinion and cares to listen to students that aren’t necessarily a part of the Student Union,” said sophomore Corina Li-Caldwell.

The feelings held by many students were reciprocated by administrators, who enjoyed the chance to hear student feedback.

“I think the Student Voice Forum is going really well,” said Campbell. “I created this when I was the principal and I am so happy to see it still going strong and to still be a part of it in my new role.”
