Harrison Witt

Harrison Witt, Executive Editor

My name is Harrison Witt, and I am a senior at ETHS.  I am currently one of the Executive Editors for the Evanstonian.  My path to this position involved being a Feature Editor and a Sports Columnist. The Evanstonian has given me the outlet to express my voice, while developing a deeper understanding of the school.  Outside of the Evanstonian, I am on the Mock Trial team and host a sports talk show called Beardsley Bums.  I am interested in combining my interests in law, business, communications and sports in a career in sports agency or sports management.

Lowe’s Last Class

In the fall of 2017, Lowe and The Evanstonian staff published six issues together prior to Lowe’s early retirement in December of that year. Though Lowe was often absent due to recurring health issues, the staff was able to produce more issues than in a typical year as Lowe continued to push his students to create the best product possible, just like he had for the 30 years prior.
We the fans

We the fans

Harrison Witt, Sports Columnist May 25, 2017

From the stands. That is the name of my tri-weekly column that has come out over the past school year, but this name is more than a cheesy title for the sports column; it is a lifestyle for the majority...

The most difficult sport to play at ETHS is…

Harrison Witt, Sports Columnist April 21, 2017

While everyone thinks that whatever sport they play is truly the most difficult, there needs to be a determination of what is the true hardest sport.  This is where I come in. Every sport is challenging...

Skill over strength

Skill over strength

While many programs tend to favor student-athletes who are strong, there are far more important aspects that our teams should focus on. Yes, hitting the weights is important. It is not good to put...

Nojel deserves to be Mr. Basketball

Harrison Witt, Sports Columnist February 24, 2017

Although this year’s Illinois high school basketball talent is extraordinary, our very own Nojel Eastern has proven he is at the top. Illinois is known for producing great basketball players.  Some...

We don’t want Pomkits… all the time

Harrison Witt, Sports Columnist February 7, 2017

Pomkits are a great ETHS tradition, but at a certain point it is time to give other people a chance to perform at these high profile halftimes as well. Don’t get me wrong, the Pomkits are a very talented...

Having fun makes a team successful

Harrison Witt, Sports Columnist November 22, 2016

You have heard the typical saying: the most important rule is to have fun!  While this statement may seem cliche, it holds more truth than you think, especially for coaches. The idea of having fun...

Private v. Public

Harrison Witt, Sports Columnist October 28, 2016

The playoffs are here. Loyola will likely win back to back state championships this year because of the unfair advantages they have being a private school.  However, the competition is not as uneven...

High school first, club second

Harrison Witt, Sports Columnist October 5, 2016

Represent the E. Student athletes should prioritize playing for their high school team rather than a club team. There are student-athletes from various sports who make the decision to play, or focus,...

Rio is not the place to hold the Olympics

Harrison Witt, Sports Columnist August 22, 2016

Zika virus, political turmoil, polluted waters and a rough economic state. Does this sound like a place to hold the largest sporting event in the world? Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, home of the 2016 Olympics,...

Parents sway your political opinions

Parents sway your political opinions

Harrison Witt, Feature Editor February 26, 2016

A chip off the old block. Many of you have the same political views as your parents despite doing research. “My parents and I have similar views, but they let me create my own political beliefs. ...
