Last year’s field hockey season was defined by strong leadership, team chemistry, and a deep playoff run that ended in a heartbreaking one-point overtime loss in the super-sectional against Glenbrook South. Led by 5 senior captains, the team built strong connections with rivals such as Loyola and New Trier.
“The team chemistry last year was just a really big part of how successful we were in the season,” said rising senior Vivie Aceves.
With last season’s seniors having graduated, the rising senior class now looks to step into leadership roles on the team. Some of the key returning senior players expected to lead include Sienna Seyferth, Natalie Lesch, Sasha Hammond, and Vivie Aceves. Additionally, rising juniors such as Maggie Bird and Olive Fox, along with rising sophomore Evie Holstine, have shown impressive growth and development. Their progress indicates they will be valuable assets to the varsity squad this season.
“Evie made varsity her freshman year last year, and has also really improved in the field hockey world, and she’ll definitely be a good asset throughout this upcoming year as well,” stated Aceves.
Over the offseason, the team conducted numerous skill-specific drills and workouts during the winter. During warmer days, the team went outside for summer camp, which focused on skill development and introduced the basics of the sport to beginners. The camp was led by both Varsity and Jv coaches, alongside a handful of alumni who came back to teach their skills and share their experiences of what it was like to be on the team.
As the new season approaches, the team is entering with a mix of fresh faces and experienced leaders. If their chemistry, work ethic, and drive are any indication, fans can expect a season full of heart, growth, and determination.
The Kits travel to defending State champions New Trier in the first match, being played on the Trevians’ new astroturf field that was designed specifically for field hockey.
