For the first time in 17 years, Evanston football will take the field under new leadership. The program turns its page with new head coach Miles Osei, a former Division I collegiate athlete at Illinois, with a decade of coaching experience under his belt.
“He’s gonna be a really good coach for the team and the program for the near future,” said senior linebacker Michael Pryor.
Osei-who is only 32-has a reputation for being a program builder. In his two seasons as the head coach at Kankakee High School, he achieved a 21-3 record and made back-to-back appearances in the state quarter finals.
“He can coach any position on the field, no problem, and he’s really on top of things from a Division I standpoint.” Stated Pryor.
With most of the prominent starters from the 2024 season graduating, it leaves room for many rising seniors to step up and take a leading role on the team. A prominent name to keep in mind would be senior Sonny Vega, the team’s new starting center, who takes pride in his extremely hard work on the field. After claiming first place in the state 4×400 relay, wide receiver junior Justin Johnson has proven his worth and reliability not only for the track team but also for the football program. His athleticism makes him a player to look out for this season.
Last season was a roller coaster of a season for the Kits, finishing 3-6 on the season
The Kits have spent their offseason training with intensity not only on the field, but also in the weight room and the classroom, preparing for some of their biggest rivalries. Some notable matchups fans should get excited for are Maine South, St. Lawrence, and Hoffman Estates.
“It’s not going to be easy, but now that we have a lot more locked-in and focused players, I think we have what it takes to [win],” noted Pryor.
The Osei era begins on August 29th, with a home game against Niles North.
