ETHS Girls Tennis enjoyed a successful 2024 campaign off the back of an impressive run made by their top doubles team, Linden Wadsworth and Mia Darer. The duo became the first Evanston players to qualify for State since 2018, where they won three matches- tying the program record over the last 50 years. The feat was also achieved by Jessica Ampel and Abbey Moore in 2015 and by Brigit Larson and Erin Fenn in 2004.
“I had come very close to qualifying in my first two seasons. So it was a relief to finally reach state, which was my big goal for my high school career,” remarked Wadsworth.
Darer graduated in 2025, but Wadsworth will most likely return for her 2025 senior season as the team’s top singles player. Over the off-season, Wadsworth committed to Carlton College, which she says will take some pressure off the game.
“I would love to make another state appearance and go even further into the competition,” Wadsworth noted, “However, I would say that this year my main goal is to play with freedom and have as much fun as possible.”
Aside from Wadsworth, fans should look for big contributions at the top of the Kits lineup from juniors Quynh Lenz, Ainsley Cox, and Noa DaSilva, as well as seniors Alexa Farrar and Sophie Berger-White. Unlike previous seasons, where the teams lined up have been dominated by seniors, this season, the majority of the players on the team are underclassmen. In tennis, achieving one state title for a player or doubles team is one thing, but getting more than one in the same season is a whole new level of accomplishment.
“My Dream is to have a whole squad of girls to go to state. I am not sure how likely that is to happen, but it would be amazing if it did,” stated Wadsworth.
The Kits will open their season at home against OPRF on August 25th.
