ETHS took the Girls flag football world by storm in 2024, securing memorable wins against Maine South, Glenbrook South, and Taft en route to an Elite Eight finish in the ISHA playoffs.
“We had some challenges early in the season, but we clicked at the perfect time, which allowed us to make an amazing run,” recalled Head Coach Carlton Rosemond.
The Kits’ success was built on a strong defensive core that helped them to grind out wins in tight games. Graduated players Kennedy Murray and Charlie Kingsbury were pivotal in preventing big plays and stopping runners in their tracks. Another key graduate, captain, and star running back, Hannah Honore, will also be missed. Still, the team was incredibly young, with over half of the roster made up of underclassmen.
“Although we lost some key players, we still managed to keep a very strong core intact. That’s why I have no doubt that we can make it just as far, if not further, as we did last year,” remarked Rosemond.
If another deep playoff run is on the cards, then Juniors KyNia Hunt and Brielle Rosemond will need to produce yet another stellar season on both sides of the ball. Third-year starting quarterback Maggie Conforti- the team’s only returning senior- will need to step up as a leader both on and off the field.
Kits fans got an early look at this season’s potential during a summer tournament hosted by the Bears. ETHS impressed by going 5-1 and allowing just two touchdowns throughout the tournament.
“We played very well and got a glimpse of what we could achieve this season,” remarked Rosemond.
The season will officially start on September 3rd at Maine South, which will be vying for revenge.
Unlike last year, when the Kits’ underdog mentality allowed them to upset the #3-ranked Maine South and #1-ranked Taft, expectations this time are sky high.
