For offensive lineman Chris Fargo, it has always been about the team.
“In my four years of high school football, I scored zero points, and my name was called zero times,” said Fargo. “You’ve got to have pride in the team and help the team succeed more than yourself.”
Despite never receiving significant individual glory in high school football, Augustana College showed immediate interest in Fargo because of his work ethic and commitment to the team’s success. The program first reached out during the spring of his sophomore year and eventually extended an offer at the start of his senior year. Fargo had multiple Division III offers but ultimately chose to commit to Augustana.
“I had built the best reputation and relationship with them,” said Fargo. “Coach Buzz (Mike Burzawa) would always ask us, ‘If you got hurt—God forbid—would you still want to go to school there?’ And I feel like I’d be just fine at Augustana even if I wasn’t playing football.”
The transition from high school to college football is no easy task, but Fargo is embracing the heightened competition as he begins the next chapter of his life.
“I understand that the guys who go on to play college football were the [best players] at their high schools,” Fargo noted. “I think it’s going to be interesting to be surrounded by a bunch of people who were ‘the guy’ at their high schools.”
