Although sophomore Linden Wadsworth dropped her first set on Monday evening, the top Kit singles player came roaring back to defeat Lane Tech’s one singles, 3-6, 6-4, 10-7. Wadsworth’s resilience in the third-set super tiebreak sealed the win on court 1 for the Kits and propelled Evanston to a 5-1 victory over the Champions of Lane.

Wadsworth’s second set served as a huge turning point in her match, seeing her battle through a long final game to secure the 6-4 win and send the match into a deciding breaker. Controlling the tiebreaker from the very first point, Wadsworth attributed her comeback to overcoming mental adversity.

“The key is to go out, just play freely and not think too much,” Wadsworth said. “You have to try and ignore [everything] and try to win every point. If you let stuff get in your head, you will lose.”

Wadsworth is currently ranked as the 26th best sophomore in Illinois on Tennis Recruiting, which is only set to improve as she gains more experience playing against top talent.

Evanston quickly swept all three of its doubles matches and won at three singles en route to its victory on Monday. The common factor for the Kits was getting off to a good start and not looking back.

Evanston will look to continue its winning ways on Tuesday, Sept. 19, at Deerfield.
