Boys soccer’s senior night spoiled late in match

Following a 3-1 loss to Oak Park-River Forest Oct. 10, boys soccer looked to rebound Thursday for senior night against Round Lake. But despite these hopes, a last-minute goal by the Panthers ultimately cost Evanston a win for its seniors.

Though things may not have turned out the way the Kits had hoped, there were still bright spots. A close shot on goal at the 65-minute mark from senior midfielder Sam Darer combined with a slew of solid saves from junior goalkeeper Alex Mahoney signify a team well-equipped for success in the upcoming IHSA playoffs.

And while losing senior night was undoubtedly disappointing, the team will grow from the experience.

“Walking off the field, we’re definitely feeling less confident than we did walking on,” says senior forward C.J. Henry. “But this is the kind of thing that will bring us together and make us stronger.”
