ETHS’ girls basketball team tips off against New Trier tonight at 6 p.m. in Beardsley Gym. The Kits, 6-0, look to avenge last year’s one point loss against the Trevians at home. For Evanston, tonight’s game is about more than just a win or a loss on their calendar.

“I lost to New Trier for the first time last year in Beardsley, and I saw one of the seniors crying. At the time, I didn’t understand how big of a deal it was, but now I get that the rivalry we have runs deeper than just us,” senior guard Kayla Henning explained. “It’s really historic. Closing this chapter successfully means getting this win.”

The Kits, ranked second in Illinois, are firing on all cylinders. At 5-0, the Kits have beaten some of the best teams in the nation.

Last Saturday, Dec. 7, ETHS defeated Beaver Dam (Beaver Dam, WI) 64-57 in double overtime. The Golden Beavers are currently sporting a 73 game win streak against teams in Wisconsin.

Earlier this season, Evanston defeated fifth ranked Simeon 54-48. With their success, ETHS knows they should win tonight’s game, but they know that beating the 6-3 Trevians won’t be easy.

“I really think we are the better and more talented team, but that doesn’t guarantee a win. With us being ranked second, we have a target on our back,” Henning said. “Every team feels like they’re playing the Super Bowl when they play us. We’ve got to take the best shot, stay calm, play our game and we’ll be good.”

Evanston’s variety of weapons makes them almost unguardable. From elite shooters, to explosive playmakers, to a dominant paint play, the Kits have it all.

Tonight’s matchup will certainly be a fun one, as the Kits look to keep playing incredible basketball.
