Girls Bowling launches their season with the Zee Bee Invite on Nov. 28

Knock ‘em down.

The girls bowling team hopes to roll an exciting new season as they return to the Zee Bee Invite on Nov. 28.

“Last year at the invite we did not do very well,” said coach Ray Austin. “At this tournament we tend to give all levels a shot to play. It’s important to get younger players involved early. With bowling, anyone can win on any day.”

Teams such as Palatine, Zion-Benton and New Trier will compete at the invite. Last year, the team placed 9th overall with a total of 4023 points.

After previewing the team at the upcoming invite, the Kits go head to head with the Trevians on Dec. 9. Evanston has defeated New Trier nine out of the twelve times the teams have played each other. Before last year, the Kits had not lost to New Trier since 2009; the first time Evanston had ever bowled.

“Last year was a hard loss, we were disappointed in our performance and the loss of our pin,” commented senior Vicki Kosiba. The pin is a trophy passed between the teams signifying the winner of the rivalry. “They bring that pin bedazzled now in blue and green to every match we have against them. Seeing that definitely motivates us.”

Last season, the Kits fell to the Trevians twice. In the first match, the Trevians snagged the win by just four pins, leaving the kits with a 2100-2096 loss. The second time around, they won by a slightly larger margin of 13 pins, with the final score being 2544-2531.

After losing star senior Arri Dotch, Evanston will depend on its co-captains Chyna Wright (who bowls a 150 average) and Kosiba (160) to defend their honor this upcoming season.

“Bowling takes a lot of focus and adjustment the littlest thing can throw off your shot” added Wright.

The Kits will bowl against Taft on Dec. 3. before taking on the Trevians.
