Hello everyone,
As the first quarter comes to an end, it’s important that everyone is prioritizing mental and physical health when it comes to balancing school work with other responsibilities.
The ETHS school board had its monthly meeting on October 6th. Here are some of the main things that came up:
- HVAC (air conditioning) is going to be installed in the gym wing. The installation process will happen over the next three years, so the current freshmen will get to experience it.
- The ETHS Foundation has raised about $23.5 million (with the goal of $48 million) for its capital campaign of ‘Evanston to Everywhere’. The focus of this campaign is major campus renovations, including a new theater, engineering labs, and culinary kitchens, among other things.
- The district is being financially challenged by not receiving Cook County property tax payments on time.
The Student Voice Forum will be held on November 3rd. This forum is an excellent opportunity to share your opinions with the ETHS administration. If you’re interested, remind your teachers to sign up when the sign-up comes out next week!
As this month has gone on, I have found myself reflecting on a quote by Barack Obama, “There is not a liberal America and a conservative America – there is the United States of America. There is not a Black America and a white America and a Latino America and an Asian America – there’s the United States of America.” At a time when our country feels extremely divided, on both sides of the aisle, it is hard to remember the humanity of our fellow Americans. Yet the only way forward is together. We cannot succeed as a country if we do not try to work together. I am guilty of this myself; I often do not want to hear opinions that disagree with my own. Listening to those very opinions, however, is the only way that society moves forward. So this month, try to find someone or something you disagree with, and try to understand them. United we stand, divided we fall.
I hope to see you all at the Student Voice Forum,
Eva
