My name is Eva Hansen and last year, I was elected by you, the student body, to be your student representative to the ETHS District 202 school board. I am looking forward to serving you all and I’m excited to see what this year will bring!
At ETHS, we are lucky to have an administration that values the opinions of students. Because of this, one of the members of the ETHS school board (which is composed of members who vote to decide how ETHS is run) is a non-voting student representative. The role of the ETHS student representative is to attend monthly school board meetings and deliver a report that provides insight into your experiences at ETHS to help inform about ETHS.
My job is to represent the sentiments of the entire student body towards specific issues and so it is extremely important to me to know how your ETHS experience is going. If there is anything that you feel needs to be addressed by the school board, please let me or the Student Union know. You can do this by attending the weekly Student Union meeting every Thursday in W311 or reach out to me directly at [email protected].
The Student Union is the place to be if you see any issues that you want fixed around ETHS. In this group, we work to advocate for all ETHS students, striving for an ETHS that fits all of our needs. If this is something you care about, please feel free to join us! The ETHS Student Union is unique because, besides being led by the elected student representative, it is entirely volunteer run. That means that anyone can come to any of our meetings, so please do! Some examples of topics the Student Union has worked on in the past include removing the dress code and increasing access to sanitary products.
Every year, the Student Union hosts the Student Voice Forum. This forum is a great opportunity for students to share their thoughts on ETHS with our school’s administration. At this forum, students talk about different issues, and their opinions are gathered by the Student Union. Student Union members then use the information gathered at this forum to form plans to tackle the most pressing issues facing ETHS students. We are excited for this year’s student voice forum and hope that as many students as possible attend.
Lastly, it is important to me to be clear to you all about what I am doing as a student rep. Effective representation starts with communication and so I will be reporting what I do as rep on my social media (Instagram: @eva4evanston) and by writing in the Evanstonian every month.
Remember, change starts with you! If you see something that you feel needs to be changed at ETHS, do something. Reach out to the administration, come to a student union meeting, we want ETHS to be a place where everyone can thrive.
Let’s make it the best year yet,
Eva
