There’s new business in town

Editorial

We all admire ETHS for its sports and theatre programs, but it’s time to recognize Algebra and Entrepreneurship for their innovative work on the Wildkit Store.

Although the store has been around for decades, first as a fixture in H-hall and then just a kiosk, the Wildkit Store has been renovated yet again. Now, there’s a permanent store located on the third floor of the North Wing, open before and after school everyday.

Through donations for Algebra and Entrepreneurship, teachers and store- advisors Chris Manila and Erin Mancini created the initiative for the Wildkit Store, implementing it into the class curriculum. With about 50 students enrolled in the class, there are plenty of job opportunities available to help manage the store.Together, the students learn and utilize Algebra skills to calculate profit and revenue cost, create purchasing schedules, price items, and decide what and what not to restock.

While often times the school looks toward upperclassmen for leadership roles, Algebra and Entrepreneurship is aimed toward freshman and sophomores, inspiring young students to take initiative and be leaders. What other class do you know of at ETHS that’s equipped with their own human resources department run by underclassmen? I know, we can’t believe it either.

Students can purchase items with real cash or with kit-cash, which you can get from attending Wildkit Academy or from behaving well in class (provided by your teachers). Items sold include t-shirts, sweatshirts, sweatpants, hats, visors, beanies and water bottles, all imprinted with the ETHS brand.

We at the Evanstonian believe the Wildkit Store is a great opportunity for both students involved in the class as well as the general student body. Being able to participate on a real- life business/ marketing team as a young adult offers great experience for later employment, and also builds confidence in student abilities. All students should take advantage of this awesome opportunity to purchase spirit wear and support their fellow classmates!
