Scholastic bowl students enjoy challenge of competition

The Kiwanis Club of Evanston recently honored two members of Scholastic Bowl at  Evanston Township High School.  Their advisor, Ryan McLaughlin, introduced Jakob Reinke and Alec Jacobson.

Both young men enjoy the challenge of the ‘bowl’ games as they compete to answer trivia questions against other Central Suburban League schools.   Alec has been a member of the team throughout his years as ETHS and Jakob joined as a junior.  The students explained that frequently each member of the team has a ‘specialty’ area of expertise, i.e, one student may be gifted in science, another from literature or mathematics.

They received a book on leadership, a certificate of achievement and a $25 gift certificate to Barnes & Noble.  The awards honor Ted Van Zelst, a Kiwanis member for over 25 years, a corporate leader and inventor, a humanitarian who led the battle to legitimize chronic fatigue syndrome and a prominent art collector.  Since its inception in 2007, the club has recognized over 200 students in a variety of activities at the high school.
