Anticipated movies set to arrive in 2022

People are finally starting to return to the theaters, and, with so many great movies coming up in 2022, audience members won’t be disappointed. Whether you like comedy, action, adventure or mystery, there will be something for you this year on the big screen.

‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part 1)’

Miles Morales, Gwen Stacy, and Peter B. Parker will all be returning in the upcoming sequel to the 2018 hit Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The movie will pick up right where Into the Spider-Verse left off and will introduce fans to new Spider-Men, like Oscar Isaac’s Spider-Man 2099. Fans can expect to see the unique comic book-style animation from the first movie as well as new artistic styles for the dimensions that Miles visits. If you’ve been eagerly awaiting a sequel to Into the Spider-Verse, you don’t have to wait much longer because Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse premieres in October 2022.

‘The Northman’

If you’re a fan of hardcore action, then The Northman is the movie for you. Taking place in Iceland at the beginning of the 10th century, the movie focuses on a bloodthirsty Viking prince whose father was murdered when he was a boy. The prince will stop at nothing to get revenge on the man that murdered his father and to regain the kingdom that is rightfully his. In addition to having great actors like Willem Dafoe, Nicole Kidman, and Anya Taylor-Joy, The Northman will be full of action and revenge and will be a must-see when it premiers in April.

Upcoming MCU Movies

The MCU is bringing back some of its most successful characters for 2022 as well as trying out things they’ve never done before, ensuring that fans will be kept on their toes. The first MCU movie that will debut in 2022 is Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange. It will be released in May and is the MCU’s first horror movie. The second MCU title coming out in 2022 is Thor: Love and Thunder, which will premiere in July. It is directed by Taika Waititi, who directed Thor: Ragnarok so there are high hopes for his return. The final MCU movie being released this year is Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which will be released in November. The movie will show T’Challa’s sister Shuri take on the mantle of Black Panther and the introduction of the popular Marvel Comics character, Namor.

‘Death on the Nile’

Based on the Agatha Christie novel of the same name, Death on the Nile is a murder mystery premiering on Feb. 11. It takes place on a luxurious river steamer journeying through Egypt, full of wealthy, high-society passengers. When one of the ship’s passengers is shot, vacationing detective Hercule Poirot, Played by Kenneth Branagh, must search for the culprit on a ship where everyone’s a suspect. Made by the people behind the popular 2017 movie Murder on the Orient Express, this movie will be sure to keep you guessing until the very end.

‘Lightyear’

Chris Evans will take on the role of brave test pilot Buzz Lightyear as we see his journey to becoming the heroic Space Ranger we all know and love from the Toy Story franchise. Buzz will team up with a pilot named Hawthrone and a robot cat named Sox to face off against Buzz’s nemesis from Toy Story 2, Emperor Zurg. Set for a June release date, this will be a lighthearted and fun movie for people of all ages and a great choice for family movie night.

‘Avatar 2’

Ever since Avatar came out in 2010 and destroyed box office records, fans have been clamoring for a sequel; 13 years later, and the audience’s excitement has only grown in anticipation of this film. Director James Cameron hopes to expand on the mind-blowing special effects of the first movie and says much of Avatar 2 will involve underwater CGI. The story will involve Jake and Ney’tiri dealing with a threat that could destroy Pandora and having to fight the humans who are trying to conquer the once-peaceful planet. This movie is set to come out in December and is already set to be followed by a third movie in 2024.
