With the performance of the ETHS Dance Company taking place on March 2, there is a lot to look forward to. From unique costumes, such as PE uniforms, to intricate choreography and interesting music, such as the infamous background music to the Pacer test, this is a night that few would want to miss.

“This is one of our biggest shows to date. With over 30 people in the general company and 15 Dynamite Dancers, there is a lot of variety when it comes to the dance styles,” director Jennifer Foss says.

With a mixture of competitive and non-competitive dancers, there’s a range of experience and skill. The company even hired professional dancers to expose students to a full range of expression through dance.

“In this year’s main show, the styles showcased include ballet, contemporary, jazz, hip-hop, tap, Irish, Bollywood, Capoeira and Vogue,” senior, production executive and dancer Taylor Rosenthal says.

The show is mainly student run, enabling seniors to choreograph their own dances, 12 to be exact. The quality of the costumes reflects the spread of dance styles as well.

“We are wearing a variety of costumes, from flowy dresses to P.E. uniforms,” Rosenthal adds.

Whether it is plain pedestrian clothes, the costumes are merely an extension of the incredible art form taking place on stage.

The costumes do not surpass the professional quality of the music.

“In terms of music, the show consists of indie pop, hip hop, and contemporary alternative music,” senior and dancer Sidney Chuckas says.

This dance show is unlike any other, bringing in the creativity and talent of various students. With competitive dancers, who perform their pieces outside of the school, and noncompetitive dancers, who perform at school only, the night offers a range of dances that few could expect.
